Which Smart ‘Stat Does Parthenon Recommend?
- Nest – The most well-known brand in smart thermostats is Nest, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best. In fact, brand recognition can sometimes lead to overpriced products. And while Nest can be more costly, we’ve also found their displays (while sleek!) tend to be less user-friendly than our other options. And back to cost, if you have a heat pump system*, you’ll have to buy an accessories kit to accommodate the need for a common wire at the time of install. These additional parts are included with Ecobee.
- Ecobee – Parthenon Plumbing Heating & Cooling really likes the Ecobee systems for their intuitive user interface. Everything is easy and straight-forward, from the initial programming to simply turning up your heat. The device supports just about everything you would need it to as well, indoor/outdoor systems, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, smoke detectors and more. And to top it all off, we’ve found their customer service to be the best.
- Honeywell – Honeywell is a strong player in the Smart ‘Stat space. The devices tend to be a bit pricier than the others and don’t look quite as sleek, but they are relatively hassle-free when you are trying to make changes to your home’s temperature or connect them to your devices.
*How do I know if I have a heat pump system? If your home runs on gas, you likely have a gas-fired furnace, though not always. If there is no gas source, or the gas line was added after your home was built, you likely have a heat pump.
