Spring has arrived in Nashville! And if you haven’t already started thinking about spring cleaning, Parthenon Plumbing makes it easy with this list of the 5 Most Important Home Maintenance Tips for Spring. Complete all five to ensure nothing ruins your summer plans!

1. Change Your Air Filters

One of the more overlooked aspects of home care is changing out air filters. Air filters are exactly what they sound like – they filter the air! As simple as it sounds, filters keep the air you breathe healthy and hygienic. By changing them every three months, you avoid getting dirt, debris, and bacteria into your lungs or into your unit. If you have pets, you may need to change your filters more often.

2. Clear The Area Around Your Condensing Unit

Is your condensing unit outdoors? If so, it may need to be cleared quite frequently depending on your lawn and time of year. If leaves frequently fall in your yard, you’ll need to make sure they stay clear of the condensing unit. If twigs, sticks, and other debris clog the unit, it won’t be able to function properly. We also recommend trimming any shrubs or bushes that may be too close to the unit. Keeping branches at least two feet away will give your unit room to breathe.  Adding these proactive checks to your regular routine when mowing your lawn this spring will go a long way in keeping your condensing unit functioning properly.

In Middle Tennessee where storms are frequent, damaging wind and flying fragments can cause quite a bit of damage to an HVAC with an outdoor condenser. If you are ever concerned with your unit’s post-storm status, don’t try to take apart and clean the condensing unit yourself. Instead, let a Parthenon expert disassemble your unit for a proper cleaning.

3. Schedule Your Seasonal Tune-Up!

A tune-up is a regularly scheduled HVAC maintenance check to ensure everything is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. These check-ins are important because maintenance issues that go undetected can lead to entire units needing to be replaced. We know that scheduling routine checkups is easy to forget, so we created our Parthenon Partners program to keep you up to date with all your regular plumbing, heating, and cooling maintenance without worrying about hiring multiple companies.  Parthenon Partners offers a cheaper all-in-one package that provides maintenance every six months, a 10% discount on plumbing and HVAC repairs, and 24-hour emergency services.

4. Flush Your Water Heater

Now that spring is here, it is the perfect time to have a professional flush out your water heater. It is recommended that you flush your water heater at least once per year to help prevent sediment build up. Sediment causes your water heater to work harder than it should, which can lead to serious issues such loss of water pressure or even the breakdown of the tank itself. Issues with water heaters can occur in as little as two years without proper care and maintenance.

5. Consider UV Lights

Did you know that your HVAC system is extremely susceptible to mold and bacteria growth? To protect the air you and your family breathe at home, Parthenon Plumbing can install UV lights into your HVAC unit, to help prevent mold and bacteria from circulating. Air quality can severely impact your home, and lead to respiratory issues, headaches, dizziness, and poor sleep if left to spread. Only through proper maintenance and servicing can you fully ensure your system doesn’t become compromised.
